Back at it…

Last year I didn’t travel nearly as much as I would have liked to.

So this year, I decided that my goal was to visit a destination a month. Didn’t matter where or how far. So long as it took me hopping onto an airplane to do so, I would be achieving the goal.

And at my mid year check in, I’ve been keeping up with my own end of the bargain in stellar colors. In fact, this month I squeezed in a return trip to Hawaii, before a planned DC and NYC trip late next week.

People wonder how I do it. I say its just a matter of choice. sometimes those choices don’t necessarily feel comfortable, and I wish my life could be a bit more stable. But when i get to places like this: where the tropical birds are my alarm clock and the rustling of the breeze thru palms usher in the secrets to life, I am comforted and knowing that everything is perfect. And I’m as stable as stable can ever be…

Self Portraits Aloha Style

The next few weeks are going to be super busy for me. So busy, I am trying not to think about it…. But, this is the life of someone who thrives off of the creative stimulation…. most of my creativity is primarily about figuring out or designing solutions- how can I make my life better? Easier? More enjoyable? What projects or creative opportunities do I have that will keep me focused on those (life: better+easier+enjoyable) things?

So I decided to head to Hawaii (Kauai in particular) to recharge for a few days. It’s my first time here. And it’s raining. And It doesn’t matter because it is simply magnificent and breathtaking…

I fit more in my puttering today than I would have ever gotten done puttering at home! However, when you have THE Quintessential Example of life: better+easier+enjoyable drawing you in with every twist and turn of the road, its a lot easier, to pare it down to the basics and to stay focused.

So to pay homage to my traveling/puttering process, I decided to make a point of taking self portraits on my trips, because of all the places I’ve been, I have very few images that include me. And as my list of places visited becomes longer, the proof that I actually visited there becomes less and less!

And because my memory is super visual, knowing that there is an image of me in particular spots will remind me that I was there- and it wasn’t just a figment of my imagination….

Anyway, I’m creatively/philosophically rambling… You would think I haven’t blogged in a while!

So cheers. To recharging and puttering. To discovering and Adventuring. To working at

Here are more images that I shot while down under. These were shot over the entire period of two weeks that I was there. The days were filled with sun and 80-90 degree weather and I loved every second of it.

But it was the mornings, when I reluctantly got myself out of bed to tag along with the morning surfers that were the best. Each of those days I went out with them I did not know if I was still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes or if what I was seeing was as magnificent as it was. Every Sunrise different, no cloud ever the same. It was like meeting a new person, a unique individual, gently wishing me a good morning every morning….

You can probably tell that I want to go back. And there is no secret about it…. I thought that the 3rd visit would quench my Australian thirst. But it didn’t- I’m still there. I have Heartlag and I want to go back. I WILL go back….

Australian Panoramas

Started this (my collection of panoramic photos) a while back and am loving the results. My hope is to one day have a huge collection of images from places around the world. Kind of like my Stack of boarding passes from all my travels… Sorry I’ve been quiet, here. I’ve been spending way too much time on Facebook . So I’ll be more diligent about posting here….

Vancouver’s Olympic Rings…

One thing that I absolutely wanted to do while up in Vancouver for the Olympic festivities, was take a panoramic shot of Vancouver. So on our way back from Whistler, I took a detour and ventured into Stanley Park and I found the perfect spot….

Last week- I was asked by a friend to get in on a creative project that she and another creative cohort use as a sort of jump start to get their creativity moving.

It was a simple quick request. And as you can see by the frequency of my posts here, I’ve been busy using my creativity in other ways (Hello, expanding my business ) So. Without any prompt or idea of what it would lead to, I decided to “GO” for it.

The following day I was asked to do something that had to do with the concept of PERMANENT.

And this is how my creative mind works:
I thought and thought. and thought some more. I thought about doing something with sharpies (you know, permanent marker). hundreds of them. and that idea kind of faded. I thought and started to get frustrated until I remembered the directions.

In the past, a project like this was one that would always get me thinking big.

I should do something SUPER MAGNIFICENTLY ONCE IN A LIFETIME INSPIRING!

Essentially something bigger than I could achieve. But this time, the directions and my schedule and to-do list came together and made the directions clear:

“Be inspired. I totally get that you are all extra-nutty busy so don’t stress. Don’t make it complicated. Just MAKE SOMETHING. That always leads to the making of something else.”

And my thoughts, eventually lead me back to this tree. A tree I’ve always noticed and have always wanted to photograph. A tree that had dodged construction of a freeway on ramp in the past (See photo 1, right side), and a tree that just dodged another (Photo 1 left side).
A tree that made me remember why I believe trees resonate with us- because they present characteristics that should be PERMAMNENT internally:

stand tall.
dig deep roots.
weather life’s storms.

Thank you Kal, for the invite to participate. it was good to get my creative brain distracted and to steer me in the right direction. And now, I’m going to make like tree. and leave.
